Mental health at work charity Mates in Mind has launched new digital training aimed at increasing awareness and reducing suicide amongst sole traders and self-employed construction workers ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September. This prevention-focused digital training has been designed to address the challenges of this hard-to-reach group of construction workers who are often most at risk of mental ill-health and who might otherwise be unable to engage with mental health interventions. Mates in Mind research into the mental health of self-employed construction workers and those working in small firms show that intense workloads, financial problems, poor work-life balance and pressures on the supply of materials, are combining to significantly raise stress and anxiety to severe levels. We have returned from our Summer break; refreshed and ready to get back to work. It’s going to be a busy September for the Woodward Team here at Energus, we have three open/public IOSH courses running next week, an open/public NEBOSH Construction Certificate course starting on Monday 14 September and an open/public NEBOSH General Certificate starting on Monday 21 September. Occupational health and safety (OSH) professionals working in Abu Dhabi can now use NEBOSH qualifications to meet the qualification requirements within a new professional registration framework launched by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC). The Qudorat Occupational Safety and Health Competency Framework aims to ensure OSH professionals operating in Abu Dhabi meet recognised professional requirements, supporting improved workplace safety and regulatory compliance. The framework sets out competency requirements for different practitioner levels and provides a pathway for professionals to register through the TAMM platform, Abu Dhabi Government’s unified digital services portal. In a recent learner survey, 94% of participants said they would recommend the NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation*. The one-day qualification, jointly developed by NEBOSH with Great Britain’s health and safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), is designed for people such as supervisors, SHE champions, aspiring health and safety practitioners, employers, union representatives and anyone who is required to carry out effective incident investigations. Working in excessive heat is not only uncomfortable but can be dangerous, and in extreme cases, fatal. Hot work, either outdoors or indoors, can lead to an increase in accidents and injuries, and with temperatures across the UK forecast to reach record levels in parts of the UK, we consider the effects this may have on employees at work.
