This qualification is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to make health and safety their career.

Building upon the foundation of knowledge provided by the NEBOSH General Certificate, it is particularly relevant for:

Course Details

The qualification deliberately looks at general workplace issues so that is can be applied in the many different sectors in which health and safety professionals may work.

On completion of the qualification, you will be able to:

  • understand how health and safety legislation is applied in a workplace and the possible enforcement actions that could be taken
  • identify and effectively communicate relevant health and safety information
  • advise on a range of common workplace health and safety issues including how these can be assessed, controlled and monitored
  • develop a health and safety policy strategy (including proactive safety, Corporate Social Responsibility and the change management process)
  • contribute to a risk management strategy
  • promote a positive health and safety culture
  • develop and audit health and safety management systems
  • maintain individual and organisational health and safety competence
  • manage contractors and supply chains to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.

Entry Requirements

It is strongly recommended by NEBOSH that learners have undertaken the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety before starting their diploma studies. The NEBOSH Level 6 National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals syllabus assumes that all learners will have this level of prior learning, so this content is not repeated on this course.

Learners must be proficient in the use of written English because the assessments are currently offered (and must be answered) in English only. The standard of English required by learners studying for the NEBOSH National Diploma must be such that they can both understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 7.0 or higher in order to be accepted onto a National Diploma programme.

Assessment

Each assessment is a substantial undertaking. NEBOSH anticipate that it will take you around 40 hours to complete the DN1 assignment and 20 hours each for the DN2 and DN3 case studies. The time-period given for you to complete each assessment reflects this:

Unit DN1: 4 weeks (20 working days)
Unit DN2: 2 weeks (10 working days)
Unit DN3: 2 weeks (10 working days)

There will be two opportunities every year to complete each assessment,

All assessments will be checked via Turnitin plagiarism software and learners will be required to have a closing interview after each assessment.

Course Programme

Block Release (Full Time) course – The total course is 6 x 1 week blocks, plus the assessments.

Unit DN1: 2 taught weeks + DN1 assignment
Unit DN2: 2 taught weeks + DN2 case study
Unit DN3: 2 taught weeks + DN3 case study

The total course duration can vary from 12 months to 60 months, depending on when you choose to study each unit. The average course duration is about 18 months.

NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation


A one day qualification that shows how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively.

Course Overview

NEBOSH and Great Britain’s Health and Safety Regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), have jointly developed this one day qualification that shows how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively. By learning lessons and making improvements, organisations can avoid similar incidents occurring in the future.

The qualification is aimed at managers, supervisors, SHE Champions, union representatives and aspiring health and safety practitioners.

The one day NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation covers the following topics:

  • Moral, legal and financial arguments for investigations
  • Human and organisational factors that can contribute to an incident
  • The process for investigating incidents
  • Positive interview strategies and the barriers to successful interviews

Attending the course will enable delegates to:

  • Independently investigate simple incidents
  • Gather evidence including conducting witness interviews
  • Produce an action plan to prevent a recurrence of an incident
  • Contribute to team investigations for large scale incidents
  • Positively impact the safety culture in your organisation

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, but’ it is recommended that learners should already have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety issues, and many will have gained another NEBOSH qualification.

It is also important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

Unit INV1: Introduction to Incident Investigation

Assessment

A practical assessment is done at the end of the course, which will take approximately 60 minutes to complete.

Delegates will be provided with a pack of evidence and shown a video of three witness interviews. They will be asked to review the evidence, evaluate each interview and produce an action plan that will help prevent a recurrence of an incident.

Course Programme

The qualification is delivered over one day of tuition. Before the course delegates have to undertake some pre-course study (which should take about 3 hours).

It can be delivered both by online/remote learning (using Zoom) or face-to-face.

Pre-Course study

Delegates are required to undertake three hours of pre-course reading before attending the course.

Delegates should:
• read and understand the requirements of their organisation’s incident investigation policy;
• review a sample of their organisation’s previous incident investigation reports to find what lessons have been learnt; and
• reviewing some of the incident investigation case studies from the HSE’s website that may be relevant to their organisation

Assessment

The course is assessed by an on-the-day assessment which includes a leadership intervention that the delegate is planning to undertake. This is handed in at the end of the delivery day. The assessment can be either handwritten or typed.

The assessment is in the form of reflective statements which will be undertaken throughout the course. The reflective statements are designed to show how the delegate’s knowledge, skills and behaviours may have both positive and negative effects on the health and safety performance of their organisation.

Pre-Course study

NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management


The NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management is designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk in relation to the damage caused by work activities.

Course Overview

Environmental Management is a rapidly developing occupation with an estimated 4,000 plus environmental managers in the UK, and some 500,000 managers working in some form of environmental capacity.

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management is designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk in relation to the damage caused by work activities. It will be invaluable for those aiming to develop and implement effective environmental management systems within their organisations.

Holders of this qualification may use the designatory letters EnvDipNEBOSH after their name. IOSH CPD Participants may allocate CPD credits for attendance at this course.

The National Diploma in Environmental Management covers the control measures for major types of environmental risk. It incorporates the main elements of UK and EC legislation for environmental protection and general principles of the management of environmental risk, including; Waste minimisation strategies, Effects of hazardous substances, Energy efficiency and Control of pollution.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, however learners should consider that this is professional level qualification, equivalent to SCQF Level 10. Achievement of the NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management or direct equivalent prior to undertaking the Environmental Diploma course is highly recommended.

It is also vital that learners have an appropriate standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained within the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

Assessment

The National Diploma in Environmental Management is assessed by a three-hour written examination and a workplace-based project. Examination scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

The approximately 4,000 words workplace-based project is internally assessed by the course provider and externally moderated by NEBOSH.

Students must successfully complete both parts of the assessment (project and examination) within two years of the result declaration for the first unit successfully completed, in order to achieve the qualification.

Assessment

Unit IOG1 is a taught unit assessed by a two-hour written examination. This examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

We recommend that candidates should already have an underpinning knowledge of safety issues and preferably have studied the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

Course Overview

NEBOSH Working with Wellbeing, a new one-day introductory qualification from NEBOSH, will give managers the skills to help them proactively and effectively influence employee wellbeing.

Research shows that organisations which implement wellbeing initiatives can gain a huge range of benefits such as increased employee satisfaction, productivity, resilience and morale as well as reduced staff turnover, sickness, accidents and injuries.

Working with Wellbeing has been holistically developed to support a person’s overall wellbeing and learners will explore the NEBOSH Wellbeing Tree which covers six key areas: interaction, exercise, mindfulness, nutrition, kindness and learning. These themes bring together the latest research and thinking from leading organisations and experts so that managers can take away and implement initiatives that are proven to work.

Learning is built throughout the course from what wellbeing is and why it matters to benefits, practical interventions and measurement. The course culminates with the development of an intervention plan so that learners can return to the workplace with tools to implement straight away, bringing immediate benefits to their employees.

Entry requirements

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 5.0 or higher in IELTS tests.

Assessment Criteria

Carry out a workplace health and safety review which:
• considers how health and safety is currently managed, and how it can be managed better
• identifies health and safety issues present, how they are controlled, and if the risk can be reduced
• selects the most important issue for improvement using moral, legal and financial reasons.

Course Programme

The course will be delivered over 3 days.

To achieve the qualification, learners must complete and pass the Unit HSA1 assessment. This assessment is a workplace health and safety review which should be carried out in the learner’s own workplace. Delegates need to be proficient in written English to successfully complete the assessments.

Assessment

Units NG1 and NG2 are taught units.

Unit NG1 is assessed by an “open book” case study assessment. A learner has 24 hours to complete the assessment after receiving the case study information, but NEBOSH believe they should be able to finish the questions in 4-5 hours. This is followed by a closing interview to confirm that the submitted assessment is all the learners own work.

Unit NG2 is a three-hour practical examination carried out by the learner in their own workplace.

E-Learning Course

The e-learning course for the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) includes all the learning materials you will need for:

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety
Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

The e-learning materials also include revision and exam support materials, including the offer of carrying out a mock exam. Each course booking initially comes with a 1-year licence for the learning and support materials, allowing you plenty of time to study the material at a pace to suit you.

The materials usually take between 80 and 120 hours of study to complete online. Additional offline study time (using the downloadable PDFs) will vary. You can study online on most devices; iPad, tablet, smartphone, PC, etc.

The course materials for the e-learning package costs £450.00 + VAT = £540.00.

In addition to buying the e-learning materials you would need to pay the NEBOSH Registration Fees and our fees when you decided you were ready to sit the examinations.

The NEBOSH Registration Fee for the NG1 examination is £85.00 (no VAT) per unit. Our administration / closing interview fee is £50.00 + VAT per unit examination.
