Who’s it for?

This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to become a paediatric first-aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in the industry and it meets the requirements for paediatric first aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Course Content

The qualification covers knowledge such a:

  • the roles and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider,
  • assessing an emergency situation safely,
  • CPR and AED,
  • administering first aid to an infant or a child who is unresponsive and breathing normally,
  • administering first aid to an infant or a child who is choking or suffering from hypovolemic shock,
  • putting a casualty into the recovery position,
  • dealing with shock, bleeds, bites, stings and minor injuries,
  • dealing with casulalties with fractures and spinal or head injuries.

Assessment

This qualification is assessed by a practical demonstration and a multiple-choice theory test.

Course Programme

A 2 day (12 hours + 3 hours self-study) course including the assessment.

Typically delivered over two days.
